Here are a few top picks to get you started.
Bird Watching, Tide Pooling, and Hiking
There is much for nature lovers to look forward to in Lincoln City as the summer gets underway, such as the Lincoln City Audubon Society’s series of Bird Watching Walks. The next walk takes place on Friday, May 24 from 9-11 AM at The Villages Open Space and Road’s End State Recreational Area, and it should be a great way to start the Memorial Weekend. If you want to enjoy the beach to the fullest, you may also want to attend the Tide Pool Clinic on May 24 at 11:30 AM starting at the Northwest 15th Street beach access area in Lincoln City. Athena Crichton of the Hatfield Marine Science Center and Fawn Custer of the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition will give a series of these free clinics throughout the summer and they’re a great way to better understand the landscape just beyond your beach vacation rentals. Lincoln City is also home to a rich network of hiking trails worth exploring on your own while enjoying everything the area has to offer.
Culinary Demos, the Farmer’s Market & More for Foodies
The culinary scene is thriving in Lincoln City, and the warmth of summer makes an excellent setting to enjoy it in. Eating out is always an adventure with a range of options including cafes, bistros, wine bars, breweries and gastropubs, fine dining establishments, and several restaurants within the Chinook Winds Casino Resort. The Culinary Center in Lincoln City also hosts cooking demos and classes throughout the year and is kicking off summer with a Japanese Demo on Saturday, May 25 from 11 AM to 1 PM that ends with an opportunity to eat the foods you’ve just seen prepared. Classes taking place later in the summer will also provide a more hands-on approach and often include a wine pairing. If you want to meet the growers and producers who put this delicious food on the table while sampling and shopping in a jolly atmosphere, you’ll also want to visit the Lincoln City Farmers & Crafters Market. The markets will take place every Sunday from 9 AM to 11 PM all summer long, including Memorial Weekend, and you can rest assured that everything for sale was either homegrown or handmade by the seller.
Special Holiday Celebrations and Glass Drops Galore!
Lincoln City marks its summer holidays in style from Memorial Day to 4th of July to Labor Day. Numerous festivals also take place during the summer, such as the beloved Kite Festival on June 22. This Memorial Day (Monday, May 27) the city will host its 74th Annual Fleet of Flowers Ceremony in Depoe Bay starting at 11 AM, which honors those lost at sea with a fishing fleet that sets sail bedecked with flowers followed by a festive reception. Special Glass Drops will also take place throughout the weekend to celebrate Memorial Day with 50 red, white & blue floats to be hidden along Lincoln City’s 7½ miles of public beaches for all you beachcombers to discover. These “hidden” glass floats are part of a tradition going back 20 years, when it started as a public arts project to celebrate the new millennium, inspired by the glass floats left behind by Japanese fishing boats more than a century ago.
