Four Great Reasons to Visit the Oregon Coast this Winter

The views alone are enough to inspire a trip to one of our Oregon coast beach house rentals, but there’s much more to do on this stretch of coastline than stare wistfully at the sea. Whether you’re a craft-beer aficionado, a Dungeness crab lover, a daring storm watcher or a winter kayaking enthusiast, the months of January and February are an excellent time to book a stay in one of Lincoln City’s finest beach house rentals. Oregon coast vacations are always a smart idea, but with the quieter vibe and stormy weather there are some real perks to a winter getaway. Here are four of them.
1. Craft Breweries

Beer is a big deal in Oregon, whether you’re way out in the inland woodsy areas or relaxing in your rented oceanfront property. Oregon breweries can be found all along the coast, so if you’re staying in the Central Coast area around Lincoln City you’ll be well positioned to enjoy many of the state’s finest award-winning brews. As you head up or down Highway 101, make sure to check out some of the local favorites such as Arch Rock Brewing Company in Gold Beach, the Pelican Pub & Brewery in Pacific City, and Rogue Ales in Newport. And with the quieter tourist season, these breweries will be much less crowded.

2. Dungeness Crabbing

Dungeness crab season lasts all winter in Oregon, with the peak starting in December. It’s still an ideal time to catch crabs along the state’s 360 miles of coast, where you’ll find a variety of charming and finely appointed beach vacation rentals. Oregon crabbing excursions and lessons are available for less experienced crabbers, while more skilled crabbers might rent a boat and head out on their own. With a crab cooker back in your vacation rental you’ll be all set to catch and cook your own feast. And if you’re in the mood, wash it down with one of those craft beers you sampled earlier!

3. Storm Watching

If you’ve got a thing for Mother Nature, you simply have to try storm watching (if you haven’t already). Winter storms are a powerful and beautiful force to be reckoned with, and there’s no place quite like the Oregon Coast to catch this spectacular show firsthand. The crashing waves, the impenetrable and mysterious rock formations, the dramatic views, the thunder and lightning… it’s all waiting for you to enjoy from the comfort of your warm and cozy beachfront rental.

4. Winter Kayaking

Just because the temperatures are lower doesn’t mean it’s not possible to enjoy some outdoor activities in and around the Pacific Northwest Coast. Winter kayaking is one of the most popular outdoor local activities this time of year, as there are six bays with 900 miles of river, sloughs and backwater channels. The river systems are moved by the powerful coastal tides, while the sloughs and channels offer calmer waters. Flat-water tours are available any time of year. Book your Oregon coast beach house rentals today and enjoy these activities and more!

Why January is a Great Time to Get Away to the Oregon Coast

While some people prefer taking tropical vacations in June and July, other travelers prefer getting away to Oregon coast house rentals on the beach in January and February for a wintry, wonderful vacation like no other. Not only are activities like whale watching ideal in the winter, but there also isn’t as much foot traffic throughout the coastal towns during this quieter time of year. If you want to enjoy whale watching and other wonders of the ocean, and maybe even get a chance to feel like you have the whole beach to yourself, right now is the perfect time to book a last minute trip to the charming beach enclave of Lincoln City. There are plenty of great deals on Oregon coast beach rentalswaiting for you and your favorite companions to take advantage of.
Great Deals for January

It’s not too late to get great vacation deals to ring in the New Year. A-1 Beach Rentals of Lincoln City is offering a third night free for a stay in January, for example, if you book two nights in one of Lincoln City’s many charming beach vacation rentals. Oregon travelers can choose from such marvelous oceanfront properties as The Pacific Escape, a 3-bedroom home with hot tub that offers huge panoramic views and easy access to whale watching, or The Prince of Whales, an exquisite oceanfront condo located in Depoe Bay. (The Seabird Cottage and Moonbreaker, however, are excluded from this special.)
A Great Time for Whale Watching

Whale watching is one of the most compelling reasons to get away and rent a piece of ocean front property. Oregon coastal properties provide the ideal accommodations to get out early every day and see some of the most stunning creatures that grace our oceans. The Central Coast, where Lincoln City is perfectly situated, is one of the best places in the U.S. to spot gray whales, as they make their way along this stretch of the coastline to migrate south every winter. You will find whale watching charters that leave from the coast daily, and while you’re at it make sure to stop by The Whale, Sea Life and Sharks Museum in Depoe Bay. This museum is unique in that it focuses exclusively on gray whales, which you won’t find at any other museum that we know of on the planet.
Other Great Winter Vacation Activities

Aside from whale watching and enjoying some rest and relaxation in one of the many Oregon coast beach rentals around Lincoln City, you and your loved ones will find a nearly endless list of activities to enjoy around this beautiful area in the winter. The beautiful crashing waves will mesmerize you for hours, and for the more adventurous types the many miles of kayaking trails will provide more than ample space to enjoy such active pursuits. The Oregon coast is also known for sumptuous seafood, award-winning craft-brewed beers, and much more. It’s simply a great time to plan a coastal trip to the Pacific Northwest.

Three Reasons to Get Away to Oregon Coast Beach Rentals this Winter

While we may think of summertime when we think of adventures and getaways, winter can be the best time to plan a vacation to one of our beach house rentals. Oregon coast is an ideal destination, and winter can actually be an ideal season to visit. Many of us have extra time off during the winter holidays, and even if you have to use some vacation time in January, it’s worthwhile because the summer crowds are conspicuously absent from most destinations. The winter weather may scare some folks off from destinations such as the Oregon Coast, but if you’re creative about activities and enjoy beautiful scenery, it could be your ideal place to get away and enjoy some special time with loved ones. Not to mention the beauty and charm of our Oregon coast house rentals on the beach. Here are three winter activities on the Oregon Coast if you’re still curious about what this wintry vacation might look like:

1. Find World Class Entertainment at the Casino

Chinook Winds Casino is conveniently located in walking distance to many of the Oregon coast beach house rentals in Lincoln City, and an easy drive from many popular accommodations in the surrounding areas. The casino features frequent tournaments and promotions, but it’s about much more than just gambling, so if you’re not the betting type don’t be put off by the title of this entertainment destination. Chinook Winds also offers world-class golf, concerts and comedy shows with performers from far and wide, a play palace and games for kids, and all sorts of special events throughout the year. A variety of dining options are also available, ranging from buffets and casual fare to fine dining, delectable seafood, and swanky lounges.

2. Stroll the Beach or Main Promenade

While you may think a coastal town will be all shut down during the winter, coastal Oregon towns such as Lincoln City are home to local residents and visitors year-round, so most businesses are still open on the main street. In Lincoln City, Highway 101 is the main street, where you will find everything from gift shops to glass blowers to charming eateries to enjoy. And with more than 20 beach access points from central Lincoln City, this is a great place to start a stroll on the beach as well, which is equally beautiful in the winter as the summer, as long as you have a coat.

3. Catch Your Dinner by Digging for Clams

Razor clamming by lantern is a popular activity on the Oregon coast this time of year, due to the frequent minus tides. There are still several days to enjoy minus tides this winter, including those from December 30 – January 3 and January 28 – February 2. There are even clam digging lessons available for beginners. Or if you’re not interested in digging for your own dinner, most Oregon coast beach rentals are within walking distance of local restaurants where you can let someone else do the work and simply enjoy the delicious results.

Make a New Years Resolution to Travel to Oceanfront Property in Oregon

It’s that time of year when everyone’s making New Year’s resolutions, but have you thought of resolving to enjoy more relaxing getaways where you stay in beautiful beach vacation rentals? Oregon is an ideal destination for such a resolution. It might seem strange or even selfish, but this could be just the right kind of New Year’s resolution if you’ve been feeling stressed and unfulfilled. Doing more things for yourself – positive, refreshing, healthy things – is a great way to begin feeling more energized and inspired. Coastal Oregon is also a great place to spend more quality time with loved ones. Here are a few reasons why Oregon coast beach house rentalsshould be in your list of resolutions:

Feed Your Inner Self in the Great Outdoors
There’s more than enough to do in the great outdoors when you’re staying in one of our beach house rentals. Oregon coast beaches offer endless activities such as beach combing, clamming, crabbing, surfing, and whale watching. Aside from beach activities, the local landscape also offers opportunities for bird watching, cycling, eco-excursions, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, golfing, skateboarding, wildlife viewing, and more. Not to mention Lincoln City’s Connie Hansen Garden, the History Buff Tour and Haunted Tour, the state and national parks around the coast, daytrip destinations, outdoor activities for kids, and various festivals and events that take place outside throughout the year.

Get in Touch with Your Culinary Side
The Oregon coast is about much more than oceanfront property. Oregonseaside towns such as Lincoln City also offer various activities that feed your five senses, including cooking classes, cook-offs, and other culinary pursuits. Under the guidance of Executive Chef Sharon Wiest, the Lincoln City Culinary Center offers group and private cooking classes that celebrate the seasonal cuisines of Oregon, from fresh seafood, grass-fed meat and free-range chicken to organic fruits, vegetables and grains. You might even get to dig for clams, visit a farm, or attend one of the many cook-offs held throughout the year in Lincoln City, including the Chowder, Fish Taco, Jambalaya and Wild Mushroom Cook-offs.

Shop for Treasures That Last a Lifetime

Coastal Oregon boasts some of the most unique, inimitable shops and businesses you’ll find, and did we mention tax-free shopping throughout the entire state? Vacationing to the big cities might leave you with bags of mall-bought items that you can find in many other cities around the world, but shopping on a trip to the Oregon coast will leave you with something you won’t find anywhere else. Just consider the glassblowing studios throughout Lincoln City, where you can purchase one-of-a kind glass art, or even create it yourself while staying in one of our beach vacation rentals. Oregon coastal towns also offer numerous art galleries and gift shops where you can view and purchase unique treasures to remind you of your time here. Chances are, though, that you’ll be back for more sooner than later, once you’ve gotten a taste of what this splendid stretch of coast has to offer.
