Get to Lincoln City in Time for Beachcombing Season

With some of the state’s best seaside attractions and beach house rentals, Lincoln City, Oregon is known for its 7½ miles of beautiful beaches that attract visitors throughout the year. This is why it’s the perfect setting for Laura Joki’s beachcombing clinics that started in January of this year and are wrapping up at the end of April. When to Visit and What to Expect

This year’s season of weekly beachcombing clinics started on New Year’s Day, and there are only four sessions left in 2019. Weather permitting, these clinics will take place at the SW 33rd Street beach access point on the following dates and times:

  • Saturday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m.

The clinics each begin with a short orientation followed by a walk along the beach with stops to guide you through the process of hunting for seaside treasures such as gemstones, fossils, agates, shells, rocks, minerals, jasper, and petrified wood. Beachcombers are advised to follow strict beach safety precautions, wear good outdoors shoes, and to bring a raincoat, a pair of gloves, and a sturdy container or bag for collecting all your treasures. Over the course of the two-hour clinic you are also encouraged to ask lots of questions, so that next time you go to the beach, you’ll know exactly what you’re looking for.

Gem & Jewelry Lovers Are Always Welcome

Even when the beachcombing clinic season is over, visitors can always find Laura Joki at Rock Your World, a shop in Lincoln City’s Nelscott District run by her and husband Mike Joki. They sell all sorts of rocks, gems, fossils, and handcrafted jewelry made from these and other treasures from the seaside. It’s always worth a visit even if you just want to have a chat and see what they have in their collection. If you love shopping for unique and handmade items, there are also several other jewelry shops in Lincoln City as well as art galleries, glass and pottery studios, gift shops, and other unique stores where local artisans and antique dealers sell their wares.

20 Years of Glass Floats on the Beach

Although Finders Keepers was first imagined by a local blown-glass artist in 1997, it was not until 1999 that Lincoln City sponsored the initial season of glass floats on the beach. The artist was inspired by tales and images of lustrous, blue and green, blown-glass floats that used to wash up on Oregon’s shores from Japanese fishing crews that used them to keep their nets afloat. The project was meant to mark the coming millennium and attracted tourists from across the country. Now, 20 years on, the tradition has cemented itself as a part of Lincoln City’s unique local culture and is sure to remain so for many years to come.

What to Expect on the Hunt for Glass Floats

The glass floats hidden on Lincoln City’s beaches are meant to be found, with their bright colors and inconspicuous positioning below the beach embankment and above the high tide line. The Float Fairies come along several times a day during daylight hours between October and May to place blown-glass floats made by local artisans in fairly conspicuous spots where visitors like you might find them. Barring extreme and unsafe weather conditions, these drops go on as scheduled rain or shine, and there are also special drops to commemorate holidays and other celebrations. If you’re lucky enough to find one, just make sure to register it online through the Explore Lincoln City website. You’ll be able to register your float with its unique number, learn about the artist, and get a Certificate of Authenticity.

More Special Glass Float Drops in 2019

There are a few other special drop dates to look out for as well if you’re thinking of booking a vacation home or one of A1’s cozy beach condo rentals. Lincoln City Float Fairies will be doing a special drop of 50 pink, red, and white floats February 16-17 for Valentine’s Day; 300 extra floats between March 23rd and April 7th for Spring Break; 50 Earth floats April 21-22 for Earth Day; 50 extra floats May 11-12 for Mother’s Day; and 50 red, white, and blue floats May 25-27 for Memorial Day.  Even if you don’t find a glass float on the beach, there are many galleries and blown-glass studios in Lincoln City where you can purchase an unnumbered glass float or other piece of beautiful glass art. Winter Rates Not Only Reason To Visit Oregon Beach Rentals in October

October is an ideal time to book one of the fabulous Oregon beach house rentals along the coast of Lincoln City, as rates are entering the lower-priced winter season. The summer crowds are also fading to memory as the calm breezes and warm sands remain, making this perhaps the perfect month to stay in one of our beach vacation rentals. Oregon is chockfull of indoor and outdoor pursuits to choose from during the fall and winter months as well. But if you’re still not sold, here are five of the top reasons why you should stay on the Central Oregon Coast this October:

Ideal Walking and Hiking

During the ‘tourist’ months, walking and hiking trails also tend to be busier. On top of that, the weather can sometimes be too hot for enjoying more strenuous walks in the direct sunlight. This is why early autumn is such an excellent time – the trails are clearer, and the weather is somewhat cooler but not yet cold and stormy.

Autumn Culinary Delights

The bounty of the harvest is on full display throughout Oregon during October and November, and the Central Coast boasts an idyllic sampling of this cornucopia. There are many ways to enjoy the bounty, from pumpkin picking to cider sampling. The Culinary Center in Lincoln City is one of the best places to gain a real appreciation of the food and drink that this areas has to offer, with its series of cooking classes and demonstrations complete with wine and food for one price. Upcoming events at the Culinary Center include a Fall Comfort Food Demonstration Class on October 12, Hands-on Tailgating Class on October 20 and Hands-on Baking Intensive Class on October 27.

Better Beach Time

When school’s out for summer and the weather is hottest, the beaches are sure to be busy wherever you go. Lincoln City is no different. This is one reason why some people prefer visiting its 7½ miles of beautiful coastline during October. It’s often still warm in October, so you can enjoy the feeling of summer once more and get your pick of the best beach rentals. Lincoln City, Oregon is always a beautiful place to visit, but when you can escape the crowds, you can appreciate it that much more.

Fun Fall Activities

There are more fall activities than one person could possibly dream of doing in Lincoln City during the month of October, and there is truly something to suit every taste. There are ghostly walking tours departing from the Lincoln City Cultural Center, Saturday Morning Matinees of classic films at the Bijou Theatre, the Farmers & Crafters Market on Sundays, the 15th Annual Dark & Stormy Night series with authors sharing their work at the Driftwood Public Library, numerous art exhibits throughout the city and, of course, several spooky parties and events on the weekends before and after Halloween.

The Best Booking Deals

With all of the above reasons, it’s plain to see why October is an excellent time to book a stay at one of our beach house rentals. On top of all that, there is also the price. Summer has drawn to a close and that means the end of summer booking rates. Winter boking rates, of course, are always bound to be lower. With the warmth of summer still remaining throughout much of October, you can get the best of both worlds: calm breezes and warm beaches along with lower rates and smaller crowds.

Low winter rates are already kicking in, so what are you waiting for? Book your stay today and enjoy the splendor of October in Lincoln City, Oregon!

End of Summer Romantic Getaways

Beach condo rentals offer the ideal mix of comfort, location and romance for a quick getaway to enjoy the last of the summer sun before autumn begins. If you’re thinking of getting away to the Central Oregon Coast through October, there are many beach house rentals to choose from. A-1 Beach Rentals still has several available bookings for the coziest and most luxurious condo rentals – as well as larger properties – in the best locations along the coast of Lincoln City, Oregon.
